The Pairc Trust pledged at their 5th anniversary of community ownership in December 2020, to make an annual £500 award to a young person. This month the Pairc Trust Youth Enablement Award opens for applications.
A one-off £500 award is being made available for anyone between 16 and 30 who has a connection to Pairc. The Pairc Trust Youth Enablement Award opens for applications this week and aims to invest in a young person to fulfil their ambitions.
A subgroup to the main board has been tasked with working out the criteria for the award and they are keen to stress that it is not just an academic bursary.
Vice Chair of the Pairc Trust Angus Nicolson says:
“We want to keep the award as flexible as possible. Personal development comes in many forms – it could take in studies, travel, training, a defined project – anything that the young person feels would bring some benefit to our area and help them to develop themselves.”
Examples of appropriate applications include:
Help with training, adult education or a career change
Entrepreneurial project or micro-business related
Crofting equipment or land management project
Creation of something in Pairc that will be of benefit to the community
An experience for themselves that would also benefit people living in Pairc
Consistent volunteer effort that needs financial support to continue
Estate Office Manager Fiona Stokes also adds:
“This award is about developing them, not just their idea. It is there to ‘Enable’ a young person from Pairc to do something that has meaning for them. The only conditions are that the successful applicant would take part in a bit of publicity on social media at the beginning and that they’d be prepared to submit a short report of what they’d done afterwards. (Or tell us about it verbally so that we could write something up). We want to keep this as open as possible to get lots of applications.”
The deadline is noon on Friday July 30th and applications will be reviewed by a panel of Pairc Trust board members and scored on individual merit.
